PROACTIVE CRMINIAL ENFORCEMENT UNIT

The Scranton Police Proactive Criminal Enforcement Unit (or PACE Unit) is made up of four uniformed Officers. A Lieutenant, and three Officers are assigned to the PACE Unit (as long as shift staffing permits). The PACE Unit is strictly proactive in nature, they do not react to calls dispatched, rather create calls themselves by proactively policing, in
an effort to deter and detect criminal activity. The PACE Unit patrols the streets in marked and unmarked police units, targeting “hot spots” during peak crime times. The PACE Unit has a close working relationship with Community Development Officers in the low to moderate income neighborhoods throughout the City. The PACE Unit along with Community Development Officers work close with outside law enforcement agencies, assisting with, and organizing the saturation patrols, warrant roundups, underage drinking, detective details, and
DUI checkpoints throughout the City of Scranton. The PACE Units overall missions is to stop crime before it happens through a proactive policing effort, making the City of Scranton less appealing to the
criminal element.
